Hydro Excavation in Gippsland
Non-Destructive Digging (NDD) to Safely Expose Underground Services
What is Non-Destructive Digging?
Non-Destructive Digging (NDD), also known as hydro excavation, is a method of excavation that uses pressurised water to break up soil while a powerful vacuum system removes the material into a storage tank on the truck.
This allows operators to excavate in a controlled manner, making it particularly useful when working around underground infrastructure where traditional excavation methods may pose a greater risk of damaging existing services.

What Can Hydro Excavation Be Used For?
Our NDD truck can help with excavation work such as:
Underground Service Exposure
Exposing existing water, gas, electrical and telecommunications services.
Potholing
Digging small test holes to confirm the location and depth of underground utilities.
Civil Construction
Supporting construction projects where underground infrastructure needs to be identified and exposed before work begins.
Excavating Around Existing Services
Removing soil around buried infrastructure where a more controlled excavation method is required.
Trenching
Creating trenches for underground utilities and other infrastructure, depending on the project requirements.
The Benefits of Hydro Excavation
- Helps reduce the risk of damaging underground infrastructure.
- Provides a controlled method of excavation around existing services.
- Allows underground utilities to be physically exposed and their locations verified.
- Complements our existing underground service locating services.
Locating and Hydro Excavation From One Team
You can engage MAC Locating for both service locating and hydro excavation. We find your underground services with electronic locating and ground penetrating radar, then expose them with our NDD truck so their exact location and depth can be confirmed.
That gives you one contractor from start to finish, so you aren't left finding someone else for the excavation once the locating is done.
